has glosseng: The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) established in 1906 is the apex body in Engineering in Sri Lanka and has been incorporated by the Act 17 of 1968 of Parliament. It is one of the oldest professional institutions in South Asia and has nearly 10000 members on its roll as at present. Its membership falls broadly in to two categories viz., Corporate Members and Non Corporate Members. Corporate Members are also commonly identified as Chartered Engineers. The Corporate Membership of the Institution is awarded through a stringent Professional Review Process to those who are academically qualified in engineering. The aspirants for Corporate Membership need to fulfil certain requirements with regard to their training and the practical experience they have acquired after graduation. The majority of Non Corporate Members are graduate engineers who although they have obtained the necessary academic qualifications to become Chartered Engineers are yet to complete the necessary training and other requirements.
