has gloss | eng: Louisiana Girls State is a Girls State program started in 1941 by the American Legion Auxiliary. It used to be held on the LSU campus. In 2007 & 2008 it has been moved to the campus for Northwestern State University (NSU) in Natchitoches, Louisiana - the oldest City in the Louisiana Purchase Territory. Louisiana Girls State is the only state program to hold concurrent sessions with Boys State, which is also held on the NSU campus. It is the second largest program and for the first time in the summer of 2006 sent delegates to Girls Nation. During their time at Girls State, the citizens hold positions in the city, parish and later, state offices. When not in classrooms or convocations, the girls walk around cheering and chanting with their Parish. They are also treated to a fabulous fireworks display over the Cane River Lake by the citizens of Natchitoches. |
